Event Summary

The 3rd Annual Nickless Fun Fly was held at Elm Street Park in Lansing, Michigan on August 26,2006.

The day was overcast which kept the temperatures reasonable and the threat of rain never materialized.   The field was groomed perfectly and looked spectacular with freshly painted markings for the flying circle and pits.   A beautiful American Flag and club name adorned the field thanks to Bob Labadie.

Practice was flown prior to the start of the formal events and once again John Paris flew a spectacular demonstration flight with his Bi-Slob.   He then spent the remainder of the day coaching his daughter Grace to success in several events.   In addition to John, Dan Boka from Holly, Michigan and a contingent from the Kalamazoo Smoke Rings, led by leroy Heikes, participated.

The contest events were the same as last year: Old Time Stunt, ½ A Rat Race, 35 Rat Race, Slow Speed Combat, 100 Lap Run, and the imfamous Balloon Bust.   Trophies that were donated by Bob Edelstein, were awarded to the first three places in each event.   Two new awards were presented this year.   The Craftsmanship and Appearance award was won by Bob Labadie with his beautiful Brodak 38 Special.   The Most Memorable Moment award, went to Dan Boka for his demonstartion on how to make a clipped wing P-51 Mustang when he impacted the barrier tower after completing his balloon bust run.

By 5 o'clock, all were headed home after a great day of fun and flying.
